  • I’m on the newspaper.

Last weekend I went out of town to pay a visit to my grandpa’s burial site for the first time, to pay respect. I never knew my grandpa, as he passed away when my dad was young, and he died in the city where my dad grew up in, hence I never made a visit to his burial site until now. During my stay there, I also visited the temple that my dad is a member of since he was a kid. There was a big ceremony there and photos were taken. That was on a Tuesday. I came back on Wednesday. This morning my cousin sent me a pic via WhatsApp that surprised me.

It turns out a pic of me has been featured on the local Chinese newspaper there (me on the very left, standing next to my relatives). The temple is well known in the city and it was a big occasion, thus the event was featured on the local newspaper. Guess now I’m entitled to feel like a celebrity for a day. But don’t ask me what the headline says, as I don’t read Chinese.

  • uh, uh, uh ... does this make you a celebrity now?

  • Headlines read...

"Rudy finally comes out of the darkness and lets his Xanga friends see what he really looks like."

  • mmm a celebrity! Why not!

  • Mmm, somehow I knew it was you on the left. Clairvoyance?

  • I always wondered what you looked like, now I know! *crosses off item on bucket list* Congrats on your bit of fame, milk it for all you can!

  • ok need to get your signature when i see you celebrtity

  • @Fatcat723 - @beowulf222 - hardly.  it's not like anyone cares about it.  especially when it's just a newspaper for a small town, exclusively for the local chinese community.

@catstemplar2 - @paperblanks - actually, there are many pics of me on my photo albums here on xanga, if people care to look through them photos i posted.

@brooklyn2028 - @vsan79 - come, come.  i've got my fountain pen loaded and ready :)

@secade - haha... well, how could you be sure that i wasn't the one with grey hair in blue top? :P

  • @rudyhou - I am reminded of my difficulty in accepting praise for anything. Wonder how many others have trouble with compliments??

  • So good to see you in this picture. I too guessed that you were the one on the left. I was going to ask for an autograph, but others here have got ahead of me with that request.

  • @Fatcat723 - i too, at most times have a difficulty in accepting a praise.  but i'm getting better at it.  i find it's best to just say thanks and say that it's not really necessary.  but if they keep insisting, just accept and say nothing more on the matter, and then change the subject.

@ZSA_MD - haha... i'll let you cut in to get ahead in the line.  make sure you bring your fountain pen so we could chat about it endlessly and let the others behind you wait :)

  • @ZSA_MD - zakiah, thanks for the recommendation :)

  • What kind of temple? I know that we have gung saw that are just family with the same last name organization. The Confuscius temple in Los Angeles also has a Chinese school attached to it.

There are also Buddhist temples but you wont find one in Chinatown unless you look really hard. However the biggest temple is located outside of Los Angeles and even the politicians go there to campaign there.

  • @PPhilip - i wouldn't know what kind of buddhist temple it is, as i'm not a follower.  and i never asked either.

  • I do remember you posting pictures of yourself before.  I wish I knew what the headlines says too.  Maybe it says "A hot guy visited our temple."

  • @ElusiveWords - hahahaha.... if only.
